Ingredients:

  • 1 can (5 oz) tuna, drained

  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped dill pickles (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)

Instructions:
1. Prepare the Tuna Salad

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped celery, chopped red onion, chopped dill pickles (if using), and Dijon mustard (if using).
  • Mix everything together until well combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.

2. Assemble the Tuna Melt

  • Lay out the bread slices on a clean surface.
  • Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread. This will help the bread toast and give it a nice golden color.
  • On the unbuttered side of two slices, evenly divide and spread the prepared tuna salad.

3. Add the Cheese

  • Place a slice of cheese on top of the tuna salad on each slice of bread.

4. Assemble the Sandwich

  • Close the sandwich by placing the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side facing out, on top of the cheese.

5. Cook the Tuna Melt

  • Preheat a skillet or a griddle over medium heat.
  • Once hot, add the assembled sandwiches to the skillet or griddle.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese starts to melt. You can also cover the skillet with a lid briefly to help melt the cheese.

6. Serve

  • Once the tuna melt sandwiches are cooked to your liking, remove them from the skillet or griddle.
  • Cut the sandwiches diagonally to create two triangular halves, if desired.
  • Serve hot and enjoy your delicious tuna melt!

Feel free to customize this recipe to suit your taste preferences. Some people like to add sliced tomatoes or avocado to their tuna melts, while others prefer different types of cheese or bread. It's a versatile dish that you can make your own!
