Instructions:

1. Prepare the sushi rice:

  • Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear.
  • Cook the rice according to the package instructions or using a rice cooker.
  • Once cooked, let the rice cool to room temperature.

2. Prepare the salmon:

  • Ensure that the salmon is fresh and sushi-grade.
  • Remove the skin from the salmon fillet, if present.
  • Cut the salmon into long, thin strips, approximately the width of your sushi rolls.

3. Prepare the sushi rolling station:

  • Place a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a clean surface.
  • Place a sheet of nori (seaweed) on the bamboo mat.

4. Assemble the salmon sushi rolls:
   - Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking.
   - Take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori sheet, leaving about 1 inch of the top edge uncovered.
   - Place a few strips of salmon across the middle of the rice layer.
   - Optionally, you can add other ingredients like avocado or cucumber for added flavor and texture.

5. Roll the sushi:

  • Hold the bamboo mat with your thumbs, and use your other fingers to hold the fillings in place.
  • Begin rolling the mat away from you, applying gentle pressure to form a tight cylinder.
  • Continue rolling until the uncovered edge of the nori seals the roll.

6. Slice the sushi rolls:

  • Using a sharp knife, wet the blade with water to prevent sticking.
  • Carefully slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces, about ¾ to 1 inch thick.
  • Wipe the knife clean with a damp cloth between each cut to ensure clean slices.

7. Serve and enjoy:

  • Arrange the salmon sushi pieces on a serving plate.
  • Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
  • Dip the sushi into soy sauce and enjoy it with a dab of wasabi or pickled ginger, if desired.

Remember to practice proper food safety, especially when working with raw fish. Ensure that you're using fresh, high-quality ingredients and maintaining a clean workspace throughout the sushi-making process.
